WHAT IS OPEN ENROLLMENT?
Open enrollment is a period between November 1st and January 31st when individuals can shop, apply, enroll, or re-enroll in individual healthcare plans for themselves and their loved ones, effective in 2017.
WHO IS ELLIGIBLE TO TAKE PART IN OPEN ENROLLMENT?
Anyone who a) is not currently enrolled in a healthcare plan, b) is currently enrolled in an individual healthcare plan and wants to continue their same coverage, or c) is currently enrolled in an individual healthcare plan and wants to change their current coverage.
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE APPLYING?
Full names, addresses, birthdates, social security numbers, and employer/income information for every member of your household who will need coverage.
November 1, 2016 – First day of Open Enrollment, this is when you can officially enroll, re-enroll, or change your 2017 plan.
December 15, 2016 – If you want or need coverage effecting on the 1st of January, this is the last day to enroll in your new plan.
January 1, 2017 – Plans chosen before December 15th go into effect.
January 31, 2017 – Last day of 2017 Open Enrollment. After this date, you can only enroll or change plans if you qualify for a special enrollment period, the requirements of which include losing coverage, moving, getting married, having a child, or adopting a child.
